Technics SP-25
$1,495.00
The Technics SP-25 is a professional, studio-grade [direct-drive turntable motor unit](0.5.1, 0.5.20) released by Panasonic/Technics around 1979. It is highly prized by audiophiles and collectors for its extreme speed accuracy and heavy-duty, vibration-free build. Because it was sold primarily to radio stations and recording studios, it was sold as a standalone motor unit. Buyers had to pair it with their own choice of base (plinth) and tonearm.
Key Features and Specifications
- Quartz-Locked Speed Control: Uses a quartz crystal signal to keep rotation perfectly accurate. This prevents speed drift even if the power fluctuates.
- Pitch Adjustment: Features a continuously variable analog pitch control within a ±6% range. Unlike other tables of its time, it stays locked to the quartz clock even when you change the pitch.
- Heavy Platter and Chassis: Equipped with an oversized, 33.9 cm aluminum die-cast platter deadened with a special rubber mat to stop vibrations.
- High Torque Motor: Hits full playback speed in just 0.7 seconds and stops instantly thanks to an electronic braking system.
- Two Speeds: Plays records at 33-1/3 and 45 RPM. (Unlike its larger sibling, the SP-15, it does not play 78 RPM records).
